One Singular New Year’s Resolution

Cheryl Richardson asks:

What if the only resolution you make is to love yourself more?

She suggests that:

If you loved yourself more you’d probably…

Be kinder to yourself and others.

Spend your time & energy in ways that make you feel good.

Say no to things you really don’t want to do.

Say yes to the little voice inside that begs you to listen.

Give from your heart instead of from guilt & obligation.

Attract great experiences and opportunities into your life.

Take good care of your finances and your health.

Surround yourself with people who respect and adore you.

I’m down with all that. But what really resonates with me simply is the Golden Rule:

Be Kind(er) to Yourself and Others.

I’m going to give it a try.

Mostly I’m going to start talking nicer to me. Like less, “You dumb-shit, what were you thinking?”

And no more second guessing after the dust settles with, “You seriously could have handled that better (you dumb-shit).”

And so.

Thank you 2012 – You’ve been a great year!

On to the next!

Be Kind!

Happy New Year!!

I Don’t Actually Need to Look Good Naked….

….and other things I’ve learned in 2012.

I do so enjoy Mark’s Daily Apple, however, his motivation to “look good naked,” is above and beyond. In fact. Really and truly. I know for a fact. There are not many people in this world, that don’t look better with a bit of cover. And to think everyday “By Golly! I need to look good naked!” is not only ridiculous, it’s impossible. (And let’s face it  – unnecessary – I’m not planning on spending a lot of time walking around naked for people to see!) (So who cares anyway?!?)

I learned that in 2012.

Here’s something else I learned.

If you want your husband to stop snoring. Find yourself a good pair of earplugs.

Simple solutions to intractable problems.

Thank you 2012.

And too.

If you are in the moment. There are no regrets and no worries.

Let it snow.

Watch the birds.

Sit by the fire.

Appreciate your family.

Enjoy your friends.

And always know.

You don’t need to look good naked.

Nobody does.

Thank you 2012.

Making a List. Checking it Twice.

christmas tree

Count down. Are you ready?

Each year. I’ve found. That Christmas is just a little different from the year before.

I know that’s not what it’s supposed to be. It’s supposed to be consistent. And traditional. It’s supposed to be all about family and togetherness and peace and love and presents and joy.

But. Every year. That happens in a different fashion. And never usually the way Hallmark tells us it should. Maybe some years not at all.

If you think too much about having a Hallmark Christmas. You are bound to be disappointed.

Also. If you think too much about having the perfect Christmas. You are bound to be disappointed.

But.

Maybe. If you can take care of yourself this Christmas. And take time to sit in front of the fire. And work on the puzzle. With a glass of wine. And the cats. And the dogs. And let the family come through as they will.

Then maybe. It will all unfold with ease.  And your Christmas will be just as it’s meant to be.

The World is NOT Going to End.

You know. Really. Readers. Of my blog. (THE CARROT SEED!) Or passersbys.

The world is GOING TO END! (Not!)

You need new wiper blades (I CAN’T SEE!) (WTF!)

The little dog (Peanut!)  pees in the basement ( A LOT!!) (IT SMELLS!)

Your oldest son (of the two) has INCONVENIENT SOCCER PRACTICE (during dinner!!) Thursday Night, Friday Night, Saturday Night!!

The cat (the fuzzy grey one of the two) projectile vomits (CONSTANTLY!)

roses

Tim brings home roses. (For me!) Because all of the above.

Hello People!

The World is NOT Going to End.

Rather.

Sometimes you have days.

When.

You pause. And breath. And know.

How Lucky You Are.
